Trump May Capture Tinubu Over Rigged 2027 Poll, PDP Chieftain Warns

A senior chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adetokunbo Pearse, has issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu against any efforts to manipulate the 2027 general elections.

Pearse, a former member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), emphasised that the international community is closely observing Nigeria’s political landscape. He highlighted that global powers, including U.S. President Donald Trump, would not condone any form of electoral fraud.

According to PulseNets, Mr Pearse pointed out that the era of election rigging, particularly result manipulation, was gradually drawing to a close. He noted that the world would hold Nigeria accountable should democratic processes be undermined.

“The whole international world is watching. If you rig election the way you normally rig it before, you may have Trump (U.S. President) coming to get you in your Chamber. You may disappear overnight. Everybody has to be careful. This is not the first time it’s happening,” the PDP leader told PulseNets during an interview on Arise TV on Sunday.

PulseNets learnt that Pearse also referenced the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a “deterrent” to electoral malpractice, underlining its international judicial mechanisms.

“This is not the first time it has happened. The International Criminal Court is there, so be careful what you do with a rigged election in Nigeria,” he added.

The PDP chieftain stressed that the age of unchecked electoral misconduct is over, asserting that global actors now take human rights and democratic integrity seriously. He expressed optimism that Nigerians would reject fraud in the 2027 elections.

“No, no, no – it will not happen again. 2027 is going to be different. So, everybody should be on the lookout,” Pearse told PulseNets.

He further urged President Tinubu to prioritise governance and meaningful reforms over political manoeuvring ahead of the elections, warning that any attempt to compromise democracy could further tarnish Nigeria’s international standing.

Pearse also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain impartial and resist external pressures, stressing that the credibility of future polls would directly impact national stability.
