The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP administration in the state will continue to work for the state’s betterment, Governor Samuel Ortom has told the residents of the Benue South senatorial district.
At the kickoff of the PDP senatorial campaigns in Benue South on Monday, December 5, 2022, the Governor spoke as Senator Abba Moro denied comments attributed to him regarding the national PDP crisis.
Thousands of party supporters from the zone’s nine local government areas attended the campaign, which was held in Pavilion Square in Oju.
Assuring that those elected on the party platform will continue to work hard to bring development to the state, Governor Ortom praised the people of Benue South for their dedication to the party.
“You have done us well, you have given us support and the only thing, we can pay back to you is to ensure that we work to ensure that Benue State is better and that is what we are doing.”
The governor praised Benue South’s patriotism and dedication to the PDP and reaffirmed that the party was the state’s exclusive, indivisible platform and that it was dedicated to winning every election.
In his words, “Let me tell you, PDP is a serious business in Benue State. By the grace of God, we are going to win all our elections. We are one indivisible body that is committed to the winning of our party, the PDP, because APC has failed this nation,” Governor Ortom told the teeming supporters.
He reiterated that his administration remained committed to upholding its duties to the people despite the difficulties and lack of resources.
The governor, who bemoaned the state’s marginalisation in spite of his administration’s dedication to development, urged the electorate to support PDP candidates because they were dedicated to the state’s overall well-being.
While listing his accomplishments and running for re-election as the PDP senatorial candidate, Senator Comrade Abba Moro of Benue South Senatorial District also refuted media reports linking him to PDP crises at the national level.
“I believe that the Governor as the leader of the party, has the capacity to resolve issues within the party in Benue State and even as a leader in the G-5, he has the capacity together with his colleagues to ensure that the right thing is done and all parties to the crisis in PDP do the needful to make sure that we go into 2023 as united forces of PDP to win the election.
According to Senator Moro, “I will never assume the duty of the leader of the party in Benue state and I have restrained myself from commenting on the crisis in the PDP, believing that our leaders know the right thing to do at the appropriate time,” he stated.
He claimed that he never made any remarks during the inauguration of his campaign council that were credited to him, either directly or indirectly.
In his words, “I want to say here that, whatever is happening at the national level is left for those people who are playing national politics to resolve the matter. And if they don’t resolve it, I will call you and I will inform you and ask you what direction we will go.”
The North Central Development Commission, the rotation of power among political parties, and local government autonomy are just a few of the 13 bills that Senator Moro revealed he had sponsored in the Senate.
In his goodwill message, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, a senator from Benue North-East, said that he had come to show support for Senator Moro, whom he referred to as a “prominent son of Zone C, a grassroots politician, and a voice that cannot be ignored in the Senate and politics of Nigeria.”
In a brief statement on behalf of PDP Governorship candidate Engr. Titus Uba, Deputy Governorship candidate Sir John Ngbede noted that the PDP was sending a balanced team to the National Assembly and urged the populace to gather their Permanent Voters Cards, or PVs, and cast their ballots for PDP candidates in large numbers.
When Hon. Isaac Mffo, the acting state chairman of the PDP, handed party flags to the zone’s candidates, he said that the PDP “is an inclusive political platform” and urged them to include everyone in their campaigns.
Prior to that, Dr. Elijah Adakole, the director of the Benue South senatorial campaigns, said that given Senator Moro’s record of accomplishments in the fields of infrastructure, education, and health, the people of the zone were prepared to re-elect him and support all PDP candidates.
In their respective remarks, the event’s chairman, Elder Christopher Abah, and chairlady, Mrs. Ene Edache, expressed their willingness to mobilise support for all PDP candidates.
