Wike Warns APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, Says Rivers Is a No-Go Area

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a firm political warning to Senator Ajibola Basiru, cautioning him to steer clear of Rivers State politics following his public remarks perceived as supportive of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The warning was delivered during a political engagement in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, where Wike addressed supporters and made it clear that Rivers would not tolerate what he described as external interference in its political affairs, PulseNets learnt.

Reacting directly to Basiru’s comments, the former Rivers State governor cautioned against assuming that the longstanding political support of Rivers leaders for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could be taken for granted.

“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted. You have to be very careful with the statements you make,” Wike warned.

Speaking further, the FCT minister described Rivers State as politically off-limits to outsiders and issued a stark caution to anyone attempting to test that boundary. PulseNets obtained a recording of the remarks made at the gathering.

“When Mr President comes back, when I see the Minister of Blue Economy, I will tell them to tell him – if you carry your hand to Rivers State and your hand burns, don’t say it was me that burnt it,” Wike said.

He went on to reinforce his stance, asserting his readiness to confront any political actor who attempts to meddle in Rivers affairs.

“I can challenge anybody. This state is a no-go area whether you like it or not. Go and ask those who have tried it before. If you open your mouth to talk about Rivers State, whatever you see, take it,” he added.

Wike also accused unnamed political figures of fueling unnecessary tension over Rivers politics, advising them to focus on their respective domains rather than stir controversy, PulseNets reported.

“So take what you have taken and stop making unnecessary noise,” he stated.

PulseNets reports that Senator Ajibola Basiru had earlier spoken publicly in support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the ongoing political rift in Rivers State, comments that have continued to draw sharp reactions from key political stakeholders within the state.
