Wike’s councillor resigns, cites intimidation, declares support for Gov Fubara

Wike’s political relevance weakens as 12 Rivers politicians collapse structure for Fubara

Achor Nna, the councillor representing Ward 9 in Obio/Akpor LGA in Rivers, has resigned as the leader of the legislative council.

FCT minister Nyesom Wike is from the same ward.

Mr Nna resigned in a letter dated March 7, 2024, addressed to the clerk of the house, Rosemary Brown.

In that letter, Mr Nna declared support for Governor Siayi Fubara, generally seen as Mr Wike’s political rival.

“This resignation is borne out of my personal conviction to align with the truth in the face of the current political issues in Rivers,” said the politician in the letter.

He attributed his action to “unwarranted intimidation, marginalisation, coercion, bullying and arm-twisting” from the leaders of the Obio/Akpor LGA.

Mr Nna added, “I want to align with the progressive minds to liberate and develop Rivers. Let it be known that this resignation will never negate my earlier resolve to work in consonance with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’.”
