Yahaya Bello wanted, not in our custody — EFCC

EFCC withdraws case against Yahaya Bello

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims that Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, is currently in its custody, PulseNets learnt.

Ohiare Michael, the Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, previously stated that Bello had honored the anti-graft agency’s invitation on Wednesday. According to the statement released, the former governor arrived at the EFCC Headquarters accompanied by several high-profile Nigerians.

However, the EFCC, through its spokesperson Dele Oyewale, told PulseNets that Bello remains wanted and there is still an active warrant for his arrest.

“Media reports today that a former Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is incorrect. The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody.

“Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

PulseNets reported that the Commission had declared Bello wanted after numerous unsuccessful attempts to arrest him over his alleged involvement in laundering N80 billion.
