Yakubu Gowon Backs Tinubu, Says President Doing His Best for Nigeria
Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, on Saturday expressed support for the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the president is making his best effort to steer the country through its present challenges.
The remark followed a meeting between the former military leader and the president at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, where the elder statesman assessed the administration’s handling of national affairs.
PulseNets learnt that Gowon spoke positively about Tinubu’s performance across several critical sectors, including governance, economic management, and social development, while also acknowledging ongoing efforts to address the country’s persistent security concerns.
“As far as it goes, isn’t he doing the best he can all round? So there is no particular place. Every other area—political, economic, social, etc.—and of course, the major problem that we have today, security in the area, he’s doing everything to deal with those for the good of Nigeria,” Gowon said.
During the interaction, the former Head of State was asked whether there were specific sectors where the administration could improve. However, he maintained that the government is already confronting the nation’s major challenges.
“There is no particular place. He’s got to look after the interests of Nigeria in all areas,” he added.
PulseNets reported that Gowon explained that his visit to the Presidential Villa was largely to appreciate the president’s efforts and to acknowledge what he described as visible progress under the current administration.
