Zulum Reveals Military Had Prior Intelligence Before Deadly Benisheikh Attack That Killed Brigadier General Braimoh
The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has revealed that security agencies were in possession of intelligence indicating a planned assault on the 15 Task Force Brigade in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area, several days before the attack occurred.
The disclosure came during his visit to residents of Benisheikh after the deadly incident, which resulted in the death of Brigade Commander, Brigadier General O.O. Braimoh, alongside other military personnel. PulseNets learned that the governor used the visit to assess the situation and engage with affected stakeholders.
Describing the attack as both shocking and deeply disturbing, Zulum emphasized the urgent need to reevaluate existing military strategies in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the region. PulseNets reported that the governor expressed dissatisfaction with the effectiveness of current security frameworks.
“This is one of the most surprising attacks that I have witnessed in recent times. Credible intelligence about the impending attack had been available for approximately three days, and there is a need to reassess our security architecture to address emerging threats more effectively,” Zulum noted.
He raised serious concerns over how such a large-scale attack could still be executed despite prior intelligence warnings issued to relevant security agencies. PulseNets learnt that the governor questioned both operational preparedness and response coordination.
Zulum further queried local authorities regarding their awareness and handling of the intelligence report, as the chairman of the Local Government Area confirmed that such information had indeed been received prior to the incident.
