The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, has announced that ten members of the NYSC in Bauchi State will face an extension of their service year for a minimum of three weeks to one month due to various misconducts during their service.
Mrs. Yakubu revealed this on Thursday, emphasizing that the misconducts committed by these corps members included abscondment and absenteeism throughout their service year. She reiterated the scheme’s zero tolerance for truancy and affirmed that any corps member found in violation would face appropriate disciplinary measures.
A total of 401 corps members from the 22 Batch B Stream II successfully completed their service in the state, comprising 269 males and 132 females. Notably, four corps members were recognized with merit awards by the Bauchi State government.
These awards were presented to commend their exemplary contributions in positively impacting the lives of individuals within their host communities. The awardees were acknowledged for their meaningful Community Development Projects and Services carried out during their service year.
Mrs. Yakubu expressed her pride in these outstanding corps members and encouraged them to maintain the same spirit of dedication and service even after completing their NYSC obligations. She emphasized that their names had been inscribed in the commendable records of the NYSC and urged them to continue making a positive difference in society.
The extension of the service year for the ten erring corps members serves as a reminder of the importance of discipline and adherence to the principles upheld by the NYSC. As the rest of the corps members move on to the next phase of their lives, these individuals will have the opportunity to reflect upon their actions and learn from their misconducts, ultimately fostering personal growth and a sense of responsibility.
The NYSC remains committed to instilling values of discipline, diligence, and nation-building in young graduates, and this disciplinary action serves as a testament to the scheme’s dedication to upholding its standards of conduct.
