Ten people lost their lives early on Saturday when an Ogun State commercial bus collided with a vehicle.
According to PULSENETS, the tragic collision happened on the Lagos-Ibadan motorway at the Oniworo area at around 4:30 am.
19 people, including 13 adult males and 6 adult females, were reportedly involved in the collision, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
“Two male adults sustained injuries, 10 persons died, being seven male adults, two female adults and one female child; while the remaining persons were unhurt,” the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, said on Saturday.
According to Okpe, the collision included a Mack container truck without a registration number and a Toyota Hiace bus with the number plate KLD539XA.
Okpe attributed the truck’s road blockage as the cause of the collision.
She said that the bus driver lost control while travelling at a high rate of speed and crashed into the vehicle from behind.
While the bodies were left at the Ipara mortuary, the injured victims were brought to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical care.
Ahmed Umar, the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, voiced his disappointment that drivers would not follow obvious regulations.
He warned drivers to take caution owing to the harmattan haze’s reduced vision, and he demanded that they turn on their headlights when the weather was bad.
He urged drivers, especially those operating trucks, to always display caution flags if there is a breakdown on the road.
Umar expressed sympathy to the victims’ families and advised them to get in touch with FRSC Ogunmakin for additional details regarding the accident.
