2023: CAN releases guidelines for Christians to choose leaders

CAN releases guidelines for Christians to choose leaders

As the 2023 elections draw near, Christians should keep an eye out for characteristics of leaders who are God-fearing, particularly candidates who have respect for the rule of law, justice, and fairness for all, including respect for religious and ethnic diversity, according to Reverend (Dr) Abraham Dimieus, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bauchi State Chapter.

At the sixth CAN Carol Service of Nine Lessons, conducted at the ECWA GoodNews Church in Bauchi with the subject “O Come Let Us Worship The King (Matthew 2:2),” Dimieus urged Christians to be on the lookout for these characteristics.

He emphasised that 2023 will be special because it will be an election year, which will be marked by a great deal of uncertainty. He challenged the church in Bauchi to utilise wisdom in order to emerge from the elections strong and successful.

He emphasised that Christians must choose leaders who fear God, are honest and trustworthy, including loving Nigeria over self, and that CAN as an organisation had no political party that it is supporting both at the federal, state, and local government councils.

Such a leader, according to him, must also be physically and psychologically sound, as well as a fervent Nigerian nationalist.

“The relationship between the Christian community in Bauchi State and the government of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed is awesome.

“The Christian community in the state has never had it so good as it is under the present administration, I say this because the church is at peace with the administration, “the CAN chairman stated.

Additionally, Dimieus urged all Christian political appointees working in the administration to uphold the reputation of Jesus Christ by abstaining from actions that might harm it.
