2027: Aisha Yesufu Vows to Work Against Any Ticket That Makes Peter Obi Vice President

Nigerian socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has declared that she will actively oppose any 2027 presidential ticket that presents Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate, PulseNets learnt.

Yesufu made her position known while reacting to emerging permutations ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing that Obi should not accept a subordinate role under any presidential aspirant, PulseNets reported.

Her stance has since ignited fresh political debate, particularly within opposition circles already aligning and recalibrating strategies ahead of the next election cycle.

In an online video obtained by PulseNets, the activist expressed deep frustration over what she described as a recurring tendency to sideline credible and popular candidates in Nigerian politics.

She maintained that Obi remains one of the most credible figures in the current political landscape and should be positioned to lead rather than deputise.

According to her, “Let me make this very clear. If Peter Obi becomes a running mate to anyone, I will work against that ticket.”

She added, “In my own little way, I will oppose them even if it means not supporting any other candidate. Why is it always the best among us that is expected to settle for second place?”

PulseNets gathered that Yesufu’s comments come at a time when opposition blocs are intensifying consultations ahead of 2027. Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is widely regarded as a key figure in any serious opposition coalition.

Obi has recently been linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform reportedly being positioned by a coalition of opposition leaders seeking to challenge the ruling party in the next general election, PulseNets learnt.

The party has continued to attract attention as political alignments and behind-the-scenes negotiations gain momentum.

However, signals emerging from within the coalition suggest that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may be favoured to clinch the party’s presidential ticket.

There have also been speculations, PulseNets gathered, that Obi could be considered for the vice-presidential slot should Atiku secure the nomination—a possibility Yesufu has now publicly rejected.

Aisha Yesufu’s position is believed to have added fresh pressure on the opposition coalition, particularly among supporters who insist that Obi should only contest as a presidential candidate and not accept a secondary role.
