2027 Presidency: Jonathan Has Not Told Me He Wants to Contest — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed growing speculations that former President Goodluck Jonathan is considering a comeback in the 2027 presidential election, saying he has received no such communication from the former leader.

Speaking during a media parley with journalists in Abuja on Friday, Wike addressed the viral claims suggesting that Jonathan was under pressure from political stakeholders to return to the race.

According to information obtained by PulseNets, the FCT Minister clarified that Jonathan has not discussed or hinted at any political ambition with him.

“You’re the one telling me here. Jonathan has never told me; he has never called me one day,”
Wike told PulseNets in response to the question.

He further stressed that he would only express his opinion on the matter if the former President personally reached out to him.

“Look, if he calls me and asks me, ‘I’m being pressured to run, what’s your thinking?’ I will tell him my mind and what I feel,”
he said confidently.

Wike, however, warned against relying on unverified reports circulating in the media, insisting that he would not act on speculations.

“I won’t believe anything just because it’s on the pages of newspapers. It’s like when they said I was flown out of the country — and then people assumed it was true,”
the Minister added while speaking to PulseNets.

Political analysts believe the renewed buzz around Jonathan’s potential 2027 bid reflects lingering public nostalgia for his administration and the growing discontent with the current economic situation. However, as of now, there is no official confirmation from the former president or his aides regarding any presidential ambition.
