3 killed as unidentified men attacked Opu Nembe youth president's home

Three people have been reportedly killed in a Wednesday night attack on the home of the Opu Nembe Youth president, Engr. Ayerite Moses, in the Bassambiri community.

According to sources, the gunmen stormed Mr. Ayerite’s house, where he was having a meeting with some of his supporters, and started shooting sporadically as people scampered for safety.

The gunmen, according to eyewitnesses, ambushed the youth president from the river as his house was just a few miles away from the river, killed three people during the process, and left others with bullet wounds.

One of the deceased, Mr. Baite Agala, was killed along with his girlfriend, Queen Kieriseiye, at Mr. Ayerite’s residence. Another man was also killed, whose name we have not been able to identify at the time of writing this article.

Sources suggest this was a politically motivated attack in regards to the forthcoming general elections in the country. A man who spoke to PulseNets in anonymity noted that the youth presidents popularity was a threat to some candidates contesting in the forthcoming elections and wanted to take him as he suspects it was an internal party affairs.

He said “na APC people dey cause the attack, Ayero get the people support for town so them wan kill am so that them go fit win”.

Mr. Ayerite confirmed this incident on a phone call with our correspondent while urging the police to investigate the attack and bring the culprits to justice.

“They came at night to kill me in my house, but fortunately I survived, and my friends were murdered in cold blood unfortunately.” I want the police to do their job by investigating and arresting those involved,” he said.
