Osun Assembly opposes Adeleke and maintains the status quo on LG administration

The Osun State House of Assembly decided that the administration of local governments should be left to the legal system.

Until all legal options have been exhausted, it ordered that all LG/LCDA/AC administration remain in place.

The Assembly announced this on Tuesday during plenary as it congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke, who had just been sworn in as the next governor of the State.

The Speaker claimed in a statement released by his press secretary Kunle Alabi that the House of Assembly’s position was solely based on legal considerations and did not in any way oppose the Executive branch of government. He added that the legal considerations also applied to the Governor present at the meeting.

Owoeye reported that the 7th Assembly has received a notice of appeal on the Federal High Court’s decision on Friday regarding local government administration.

In addition, the House Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, stated in response to recent political events that the legislative branch, which is charged with establishing laws, only differed with the Governor on legal issues.

There is now a shared agreement that the House will be kept updated on topics affecting the legislature, according to Owoeye, who earlier in the day briefed Assembly members on the outcome of a private discussion he had with Governor Adeleke.

While thanking his colleagues for their service and steadfastness to the State, he said, “This is Osun State House of Assembly, anything we are doing has to be to the development and progress of this State, we have not done anything wrong or foul of the law.

“As an institution, we x-ray and scan whatever we disseminate because as far as the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is concerned, we are performing legislative duties and our functions as legislators.”

“When Aregbesola took over the mantle of leadership in 2010, the PDP-controlled local government was still in place and the status quo remained. Nobody dissolved the local government until all legal processes were completed,” the Speaker emphasized.
