On Friday, June 17, 2023, a convoy of Imo West Senator Rochas Okorocha was attacked by unknown gunmen at the Ihube community on the Okigwe-Enugu expressway. One policeman was killed in the attack.

Okorocha was en route to the burial ceremony of former Imo State governor Ihedioha Ohakim when the attack occurred. He had finished attending the funeral ceremony at Mbaise and was heading back to Enugu when the convoy was ambushed.

Okorocha said he was angry about the attack and that he was particularly upset that it happened in his own state. He also said that he was angry about the state of affairs in Imo State and that many of the people who are running to govern the state are not capable.

Okorocha concluded by saying that he has seen one man who he believes is capable of governing Imo State and that he will speak more about this person when the time is right.

According to Okorocha: “I am angry. I am very angry. I am angry because I spent two days in Enugu and nothing happened to me, but it is in my own state that the convoy released to me by the governor of Enugu State (a very good man) to attend the burial ceremony of Ihedioha’s mother at Mbaise that was attacked and one policeman killed.
