INEC announces date to begin review of 2023 general election

INEC Warns of Violence Ahead of Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi Governorship Elections

INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, has announced that it will initiate a comprehensive assessment of the 2023 general election starting in July. Mr Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, revealed this in a statement issued after the Commission’s routine meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

In accordance with INEC’s longstanding practice, the review will encompass a thorough examination of all facets of the electoral process, spanning the period leading up to the election, the conduct of the election itself, and the activities carried out subsequent to the election. The aim of this evaluation is to glean insights and experiences from the entire election cycle.

Okoye emphasized that the review process will involve the participation of INEC officials at both the national and state levels, along with various stakeholders. The objective is to derive valuable lessons from the process and establish a path forward for future elections.

He further disclosed that the review will commence with a gathering of the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on July 4 and will culminate in the Commission’s retreat, scheduled to take place on August 5.
