The candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the Co-Chair of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, over his recent statement on the migration of Nigerians abroad.
Recall that Gates insisted that the recent surge in young professionals leaving the country for greener pastures is good and healthy for the country.
Gates position was supported by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election.
However, Sowore seems to be unhappy with the two leaders.
According to him, such statements have no positive effect on Nigeria.
Sowore noted that the country needs good leadership for those in diaspora to return home.
He said: “Leadership is what Nigeria needs to gets it’s diaspora to return with skill sets that could be categorised as “Brain-Gain” and also keep its skilled or even semi-skilled workers at home, not statements such as that of @BillGates that debases people.
“There is no way a lot of Nigerians in the Diaspora or their tech-savvy children are going to return to a shambolic, badly governed Nigeria. Period!

“First, we must fix this damn country and make it habitable for its residents and then see how Nigerians at home will stick with their country and those abroad would flock back home.
“You can’t tell anyone that the slave-like desperation in migration by those perishing in the Mediterranean Sea would lead to “brain gain.”
