Despite leading a delegation of 1,411 members to the COP28 meetings in Dubai, President Bola Tinubu was unable to address the assembly after he staged a no-show on his speaking slot at the global climate change event, according to emerging reports.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, offered an explanation for President Tinubu’s absence, citing a myriad of other commitments during the ongoing conference. Tuggar emphasized that Nigeria, under President Tinubu’s leadership, is prioritizing tangible actions over rhetorical statements.
“Nigeria is tired of official and fancy statements and is now more action-oriented,” declared Minister Tuggar, further emphasizing the nation’s commitment to substantive measures. He expressed dissatisfaction with repetitive pledges and promises, asserting that Nigeria is resolute in moving from words to concrete actions in addressing climate change.
“The president was in the hall, he waited, he was going to give the speech, he listened and he decided, perhaps, that was not the time to give the speech. There were other engagements that he needed to be involved in that would be more productive,” added Tuggar, shedding light on the President’s decision-making process during the event.
