Osun Governorship Election: INEC Uploads 37% of Results to IReV Portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has uploaded 37 per cent of the results from the Osun State governorship election to its Results Viewing Portal, IReV.

A check of the portal at exactly 5:27pm showed that the electoral commission was keeping to its earlier commitment to upload results from polling units as the process progresses.

Voters across Osun State on Saturday cast their ballots to elect the next occupant of the Bola Ige Government House for another four-year term.

A total of 15 political parties are participating in the governorship election, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term on the platform of the Accord Party.

Two candidates, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, had withdrawn from the race before the election.

While Adeyemi-Doro endorsed the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Adewale declared his support for Adeleke. Despite their withdrawals, the names of both APGA and APM candidates remain on the ballot.

PulseNets earlier reported that Adeleke secured victory at his first polling unit, where the Accord Party won Polling Unit 026, Ward 5, in Osogbo Local Government Area.

According to the result announced by officials of INEC, the Accord Party recorded 57 votes, while the APC polled 43 votes at the polling unit.

Results from other polling units across Osun State have continued to emerge as the collation process progresses.

However, the Osun governorship election has been accompanied by reports of intimidation, vote-buying and other forms of electoral violence in some areas.

Despite the reported incidents, voting has continued successfully in several parts of the state as officials proceed with the collation and uploading of results to the IReV portal.
