Goodluck Jonathan Alerts Public Over Fake Instagram Account Impersonating Him
Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has raised alarm over a fraudulent Instagram account allegedly created to impersonate him.
According to a statement issued by his Media Aide, Ikechukwu Eze, and obtained by PulseNets, Jonathan revealed that the impostor has been operating under the handle goodluck_ebelejonathan, deceiving unsuspecting followers by sharing posts — some of which were copied directly from the ex-President’s verified Facebook page.
The statement, titled ‘Beware of fake Instagram account impersonating H.E. Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’, reads:
“Our attention has been drawn to a fraudulent Instagram account operating under the handle goodluck_ebelejonathan, which is falsely impersonating former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
This impostor account has been deceitfully posting content, some copied from Dr. Jonathan’s Facebook page, while pretending to represent the former President.
We wish to emphasise that Dr. Jonathan does not operate any Instagram account.
The media and members of the public are strongly advised to disregard, avoid sharing, or promoting any content originating from this fake profile.”
PulseNets reported that Jonathan has never maintained an Instagram presence, a fact his team insists should be well noted by journalists, social media users, and the general public to avoid falling victim to scams.

Eze further told PulseNets that the fraudulent account is a deliberate attempt to mislead people and exploit Jonathan’s name for personal gain. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify any social media profile claiming to represent the former leader before engaging with it.
This warning from Jonathan comes amid increasing cases of social media impersonation in Nigeria, a trend that cybersecurity experts say is being exploited by fraudsters to defraud unsuspecting victims.
