2027 Presidency: Atiku Declares Support for Any ADC Candidate
Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has openly declared that he would support whoever emerges victorious at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary in 2026, PulseNets learnt on Saturday.
Atiku, who remains one of the top figures in the coalition movement, maintained that it would not matter whether or not he personally clinches the party’s ticket. Speaking during the welcome ceremony for new defectors in Lagos State, the former Vice President stressed that the ADC was committed to a transparent process.
The event, which was monitored by PulseNets, saw the ADC officially receiving heavyweight defectors from both the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Labour Party (LP) into its fold. They were welcomed by the National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola; Senator Kolawole Ogunwale; and the Lagos State ADC Chairman, Mr. George Ashiru.
Atiku, who was represented by Prof. Ola Olateju as the guest speaker, spoke extensively on the upcoming primary. Addressing the key question of who would eventually emerge as the party’s presidential flagbearer, Atiku told PulseNets:
“It is not a thing we can predetermine. Whoever emerges through free and fair contests, we are all going to support.”
He further explained that the ADC was determined to provide equal opportunity for all aspirants.
According to him, “all the aspirants are expected to get a level playing field while the door is open to everyone to contest. We are not imposing anyone on the people.”
Atiku emphasized that the winner of the ADC primary would carry the collective mandate of Nigerians into the 2026 presidential election.

PulseNets reported that the ADC primary is already generating strong interest, with three major frontrunners emerging: former governors and past presidential aspirants — Chibuike Amaechi, Peter Obi, and Atiku Abubakar himself.
The former Vice President insisted that inclusiveness and fairness would define the ADC’s internal democratic process, assuring party members that no candidate would be imposed.
