Nigeria and Brazil Seal Five Strategic MoUs to Deepen Economic, Technological and Diplomatic Cooperation
Nigeria and Brazil, on Monday, obtained five landmark Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across critical sectors, in a move PulseNets learnt is designed to accelerate Nigeria’s economic transformation and strengthen bilateral ties.
The signing ceremony in Brasília was witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Brazilian counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
According to details reported to PulseNets, the fresh MoUs cover aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and the Bank of Agriculture, opening a renewed chapter in Nigeria-Brazil strategic cooperation.
Tinubu Calls for Petrobras’ Swift Return
Shortly after the signing, President Tinubu urged Brazilian state-owned oil giant Petrobras to return to Nigeria’s energy sector without delay.
“Nigeria has the world’s largest deposit of gas. There is no reason why Petrobras should not be back in Nigeria immediately,” Tinubu told PulseNets, stressing that Petrobras’ re-entry would unlock untapped gas wealth and catalyse economic growth.
The Nigerian leader admitted there had been setbacks in past engagements but declared this moment a turning point.
“We allowed previous problems and inactivity to hold us back. From today, that era ends. A new beginning has arrived,” he said.
A Renewed Strategic Partnership
Tinubu, who confirmed to PulseNets that this marks his third visit to Brazil following earlier engagements on G20 and climate matters, described the dialogue with Lula da Silva as both “deeply emotional and fact-driven.”
He extended gratitude to Brazil’s president for committing to fresh cooperation, saying:
“We are working tirelessly to raise our sovereignty to the expected level. Nigeria, the most dynamic and populous African nation, must stand side by side with Brazil.”
Technology, Food Security, and Pharma Collaboration
Tinubu further highlighted that Nigeria seeks to lead Africa’s economic and technological renaissance through partnerships such as this. He identified technology transfer, scientific research, and food sovereignty as the cornerstones of the new alliance.

He specifically pointed to Brazil’s pharmaceutical sector as a template Nigeria intends to emulate.
“I see no reason why generic drug manufacturing, which Brazil has mastered, cannot also thrive in Nigeria,” the president told PulseNets.
Tinubu also underlined that his administration’s ongoing reforms are vital and already yielding results, particularly in trade and investment confidence.
Aviation Links to Boost Trade
Another priority, PulseNets learnt, is the expansion of aviation links between both countries. Tinubu said enhanced air connectivity would directly improve trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
President Lula da Silva, in his remarks, reaffirmed Brazil’s unwavering commitment to deepening trade, agriculture, and cultural ties with Nigeria.
“The direct Lagos–São Paulo flight will be more than a commercial connection. It will ignite a cultural renaissance,” the Brazilian leader reported.
Brazil Endorses Nigeria’s Global Aspirations
Lula da Silva went further, endorsing Nigeria’s bid for G20 membership and permanent representation on the United Nations Security Council, citing Nigeria’s rising global influence.

He also praised Nigeria’s cooperation in law enforcement, particularly its support for Brazil’s Interpol executive membership bid.

Looking ahead to COP30, the Brazilian president urged both countries to push for decisive global climate action.
