2027: Jonathan Did Not Reject Call to Contest — Former President’s Brother Clears the Air
Viral Newsweek Nigeria Screenshot on Jonathan’s 2027 Election Stance Declared Fake
A viral screenshot making the rounds on social media and attributed to Newsweek Nigeria has been exposed as fake news, PulseNets has learnt. The fabricated report falsely claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan rejected calls to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The misleading post alleged that Jonathan said he would not allow himself to be used against Southern unity. But in an exclusive confirmation obtained by PulseNets, Mr Azibaola Robert, who is both a confidant and brother to Jonathan, firmly debunked the story and issued a clear disclaimer.
Robert posted on his Facebook page:
“This is fake news. No such aide exists and no such statement was ever made. This is not a confirmation that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is running either. The media should be cautious because people are deliberately planting these stories. FULL STOP.”
This clarification from Robert has put to rest the speculations and rumours stirred up by the false screenshot. PulseNets observed that the fake publication had already gone viral, misleading supporters and sparking unnecessary political debates about the former president’s potential return in 2027.
Analysts who spoke to PulseNets noted that this is yet another example of how false information is being weaponised ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. They warned that political observers and citizens must stay vigilant, cross-check stories, and depend only on verified sources before forming opinions.
