Hilda Baci Sets New Standard With Record-Breaking Jollof Rice Feast At Eko Hotels
In the early hours of Saturday that Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has successfully completed her much-anticipated Guinness World Record attempt for the largest pot of jollof rice, a spectacle that turned Victoria Island into a culinary carnival.
The historic feat, obtained by PulseNets, unfolded at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, where the Akwa Ibom-born culinary sensation unveiled a massive dish crafted with precision and flair. According to details Baci told PulseNets, the monumental preparation involved 4,000 kilograms of premium basmati rice, 500 cartons of tomato concentrate, 750 kilograms of cooking oil, and 600 kilograms of onions, all simmered in a custom-made steel pot stretching six metres across.
She further reported that although her original plan targeted 250 bags of rice, she prudently adjusted to 200 bags to avoid exceeding the 20,000-kilogram capacity of the weighing equipment. Ten dedicated assistants in striking red uniforms, wielding giant wooden paddles, labored alongside Baci to stir the enormous meal, while vibrant DJ sets and electrifying live performances kept the atmosphere festive and the crowd energized.
The festival, branded as Gino World Jollof Festival, drew an impressive lineup of high-profile guests and entertainment figures. Among them were Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun, Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele, reality stars Bambam and Alex Unusual, media personality Tomike Adeoye, influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa, TikTok favorite Peller, and Afrobeats singer Spyro.
Addressing the crowd, Funke Akindele passionately declared, “Beauty is powerful, but ambition makes it unforgettable. Chase your dreams fiercely and make your mark,” a statement that sent waves of applause rippling through the audience.
The Federal Government had on Friday already commended Baci, with Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris emphasizing that her record-breaking pursuit is “a clear example of Nigeria’s unwavering global excellence and cultural pride.”
