Rivers APC Warns Chief Judge Over Court Order as Impeachment Plot Against Fubara Deepens

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has called on the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, to strictly comply with the interim injunction issued by a competent court halting any probe or impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Darlington Nwauju, the Rivers APC Publicity Secretary, spoke to PulseNets and described the unfolding situation as deeply troubling, accusing members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of plotting what he termed a legislative coup against the collective interest of the party by pushing forward with impeachment plans against the governor.

PulseNets learnt that the warning followed an earlier court order expressly restraining the Chief Judge from receiving, entertaining, or acting on any resolution emanating from the Rivers State House of Assembly on the matter.

The injunction, PulseNets gathered, was issued after the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, formally requested Justice Amadi to constitute a seven-man panel to investigate allegations levelled against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

Reacting strongly to the speaker’s move, Nwauju told PulseNets that allowing such actions to stand could create a dangerous precedent capable of undermining the party’s leadership structure and internal cohesion in Rivers State.

“It is regrettable that lawmakers who once loudly professed loyalty to our party and to Mr President have now surrendered themselves to a carefully choreographed legislative coup against the collective interest, stability, and development of the APC in Rivers State,” Nwauju said.

He further warned that the development amounted to an unnecessary and reckless legislative overreach, noting that some members of the Assembly, including those elected on the platform of the APC, had shown persistent disregard for party discipline and constitutional boundaries.

“We must restate that this is a needless legislative excess, especially given the clear recalcitrance displayed by certain members of the House of Assembly, APC members inclusive,” he added.

Nwauju also called on the national leadership of the APC to act swiftly, urging the party’s National Working Committee to activate relevant internal disciplinary mechanisms as provided under Article 21(b)(iii) of the 2022 APC Constitution (as amended), in order to avert what he described as an impending embarrassment to the party.
