IGP Tunji Disu Removes ACP Benjamin Hundeyin as FPRO

The newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has officially removed Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin from his role as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

PulseNets learnt that this significant administrative adjustment comes exactly six months after Hundeyin assumed the position.

Reports obtained by PulseNets indicate that the decision was finalized on Thursday morning, marking one of the first major personnel shifts under Disu’s leadership. The move has reportedly sent ripples across the Force Headquarters in Abuja, with sources highlighting that the reasons for the removal have not been publicly disclosed. Observers note that the timing aligns with a broader restructuring effort initiated by the new IGP.

This change occurred less than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu inaugurated Disu as the 23rd substantive Inspector-General of Police, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun.

Spoke to PulseNets, insiders at the Force Headquarters confirmed that the directive for Hundeyin’s exit was issued early Thursday, adding that the atmosphere within the public relations department is tense as officers await news of a successor.

“The Force Public Relations has been removed this morning,” a reliable source told PulseNets. The source added, “While many expected Hundeyin to serve a longer tenure due to his expertise, it is standard practice for a new IGP to handpick their core team. We don’t know who will take over from him… unfortunately, he was affected.”

Hundeyin, a native of Badagry, was first appointed as FPRO by former Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun. He came into the role with a solid academic and professional background. PulseNets obtained that he is an alumnus of Lagos State University and holds a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

Beyond academics, Hundeyin is a member of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA). His career highlights include serving as PPRO for Zone 2 Command in Lagos and representing Nigeria internationally with the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

PulseNets learnt that as IGP Tunji Disu settles into his tenure, the removal of Hundeyin signals a rapid transition phase for the Nigeria Police Force. Both the presidency and the police hierarchy are expected to announce a replacement shortly to maintain continuity within the Force’s communication operations.
