Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to Western Academy in Umueze Anam, located in Anambra West Local Government Area, as part of efforts aimed at strengthening educational development across Nigeria.
Details of the intervention were obtained by PulseNets from a message shared on Obi’s official X account, where he explained that the financial support was meant to improve the school’s learning environment and support its growing infrastructure needs.
PulseNets learnt that the former governor of Anambra State visited the rural community on Friday, where he inspected the school’s facilities and engaged with students and members of staff.
During the visit, Obi reportedly observed that the institution, which commenced operations about three years ago, is currently conducting classes inside nearby church buildings used as temporary classrooms.
“In continuation of my support for educational facilities, yesterday, Friday the 13th, I visited a school in a rural community, Western Academy, Umueze Anam, in Anambra West,” Obi wrote.
“The school, which commenced about three years ago, currently uses local church facilities as classrooms. They welcomed me warmly and shared their dreams and ambitions.”
PulseNets reported that the ₦10 million donation is intended to assist the school’s planned infrastructure development, which covers both its primary and secondary sections.
“During the visit, and in support of efforts to improve learning facilities, I donated ₦10 million towards the school’s planned infrastructure development, covering both its primary and secondary arms,” he added.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate expressed optimism that the intervention would help create a more supportive environment for academic activities.
