A celebration organized for newly admitted students at the Federal University of Education (FUE), Kontagora, turned deadly in the early hours of Thursday after a student was reportedly stabbed to death inside the institution’s hall.

Details of the incident, obtained by PulseNets, indicate that the tragedy unfolded in the early morning of April 5, 2026, during what was meant to be a welcome gathering for fresh students.

Confirming the development, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said a report received at A Division, Kontagora, placed the time of the incident at about 1:40 a.m.

PulseNets learnt that the victim, identified as Seyi Simon, 25, was allegedly involved in a confrontation with Jafar Musa, 18, a resident of the Angwan-Gwari area in Kontagora.

What began as a disagreement reportedly escalated into violence, with Jafar Musa accused of stabbing Simon with a dagger during the altercation.

Police sources told PulseNets that the injured victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where medical personnel confirmed him dead on arrival.

Authorities further disclosed that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police have urged students and members of the public to remain calm while allowing due process to take its course.
