Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Storm Abuja Protest as #OperationSaveOurDemocracy Gains Momentum Ahead of 2027 Elections
Abuja, April 8, 2026 — Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have joined the ongoing #OperationSaveOurDemocracy protest in Nigeria’s capital, amplifying calls for sweeping electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The two opposition heavyweights were seen at the protest venue on Wednesday in separate video clips that quickly gained traction online, PulseNets learnt.
Footage obtained by PulseNets from Obi’s official photographer, Esther Umoh, showed the former Anambra State governor in a plain white polo shirt bearing the inscription “Operation Save Our Democracy.” He was observed engaging warmly with a young girl at the scene in what appeared to be a calm, inaudible exchange, reflecting a composed and approachable presence amid the crowd.
PulseNets reported that Obi is expected to lead a segment of the protest march toward the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja, where demonstrators are demanding greater transparency, credible electoral processes, and stronger safeguards for Nigeria’s democracy.
In a similar development, Kwankwaso was also sighted at the protest’s convergence point. The former governor arrived in his trademark white Agbada paired with his symbolic red cap, interacting freely with supporters, as seen in clips obtained by PulseNets.
The participation of both Obi and Kwankwaso, central figures in ongoing opposition coalition discussions, has significantly elevated the momentum and national attention surrounding the #OperationSaveOurDemocracy protest, PulseNets learnt.
The protest, which has attracted thousands of participants including civil society organisations, political opposition groups, and concerned citizens, is centered on key demands such as electoral reforms, transparent transmission of results, an end to vote manipulation, and improved accountability from the electoral body.

Observers who spoke to PulseNets interpret the joint appearance of the two political figures as a clear indication of growing alignment among opposition leaders, signaling a coordinated push to challenge the current administration’s handling of governance and electoral processes.
Further developments are expected as protesters continue their march toward the electoral commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
