Yobe Prison Break: Nigerian Correctional Service Declares Escaped Inmate Wanted After Crash
A 30-year-old convicted inmate has been declared wanted by the Nigerian Correctional Service, Yobe State Command, following his escape after a vehicle transporting inmates from Potiskum to Damaturu was involved in a road accident.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abdullahi Adamu, disclosed this development in a statement issued on Wednesday and obtained by newsmen in Damaturu.
Details of the incident, as learnt by PulseNets, indicate that the accident occurred on April 13, 2026, when a vehicle conveying inmates from MSCC Potiskum to Damaturu was involved in a crash.
“The unfortunate incident occurred while efforts are being made to rescue the affected accident victims,” the statement said.
The Command identified the escaped inmate as Dahiru Mohammed, aged 30, with prison number J/1539/24, who was admitted on 29/11/24.
“The escaped individual is considered dangerous and members of the public are advised not to have any personal dealings with him,” it warned.

The statement further urged members of the public to report any useful information on the fugitive’s whereabouts to the nearest police station or correctional facility. It also emphasized that harbouring a fugitive remains a serious criminal offence punishable under the law.
