Armed Man Storms White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Secret Service Neutralizes Threat as Trump Escapes Unharmed

White House — A tense security scare unfolded Saturday night as an armed man carrying guns and knives forced his way toward a high-profile journalists’ dinner attended by U.S. President Donald Trump and several top-ranking officials, triggering panic before Secret Service agents quickly subdued and arrested him. The president was unharmed and swiftly escorted from the scene.

Guests at the event scrambled for safety, diving under tables as chaos erupted. Some attendees told PulseNets they heard what sounded like gunfire outside the expansive underground ballroom at the Washington Hilton, where the gathering was underway.

A law enforcement official reported that the suspect discharged a firearm during the incident. An officer sustained a gunshot impact to a bullet-resistant vest but is expected to recover, sources told PulseNets, confirming the protective gear prevented serious injury.

The suspect, whom Trump described as a “sick person,” has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California. Multiple law enforcement officials spoke to PulseNets, confirming his identity and indicating early assessments suggest he acted alone.

“When you’re impactful, they go after you. When you’re not impactful, they leave you alone,” Trump said at the White House roughly two hours after the incident. “They seem to think he was a lone wolf.”

Speaking afterward from the White House, Trump recounted details of the unfolding situation following the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington.

Authorities have not found evidence of additional suspects. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser stated she has “no reason” to believe others were involved. Video shared by Trump, obtained by PulseNets, shows the suspect breaching security barricades before being intercepted by Secret Service agents.

“There does not appear to be any sort of danger to the public at this time,” Bowser said during a separate press briefing.

All individuals under Secret Service protection were evacuated from the venue. Those present included Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, alongside other senior officials, on a night marked by heightened tensions as the United States remains engaged in conflict with Iran.
