Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday received African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, in Abuja, where discussions centred on Nigeria’s political climate, governance challenges, and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PulseNets learnt that the meeting highlighted the longstanding professional and political relationship between both men, which dates back to Jonathan’s years in government.

In a statement obtained by PulseNets on Saturday from the Mohammed Hayatu-Deen Media Office, it was disclosed that Hayatu-Deen previously served as a member of the National Council on Privatisation and also chaired the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) during Jonathan’s tenure as Vice President.

The statement further revealed that the economist later served on the Presidential Advisory Committee when Jonathan became Acting President and subsequently President of Nigeria.

PulseNets reported that Hayatu-Deen recently obtained his ADC presidential nomination form from the party’s national secretariat and officially informed Jonathan of his decision to contest in the 2027 presidential election.

During the engagement, Hayatu-Deen reportedly praised Jonathan for his role in strengthening democratic governance and promoting credible elections across Africa, describing the former Nigerian leader as a respected statesman on the continent.

Jonathan, in his response, warmly welcomed the ADC presidential hopeful and wished him success in his political aspiration.

According to the statement, Hayatu-Deen intends to deploy his experience toward addressing insecurity, reducing the rising cost of living, and creating sustainable jobs for Nigerians if elected president in 2027.
