NECO Exam: Gunmen Abduct Students, Kill Teacher During Attack on Borno Secondary School
An unspecified number of students sitting for the Senior School Certificate Examination at Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, have been abducted by suspected insurgents.
PulseNets learnt that the attackers stormed the school on Monday morning while candidates were writing the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination, throwing the community into panic.
PulseNets obtained that the assault also turned deadly, with at least one teacher reportedly killed after being shot by the gunmen, while another sustained gunshot injuries. However, the exact number of casualties and abducted victims has yet to be officially confirmed as local residents continue searching for those still unaccounted for.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, acknowledged that several students remain missing following the attack.

Residents who spoke to PulseNets alleged that Nigerian military personnel deployed to the area had departed for a patrol operation in the nearby town of Uba, about 16 kilometres away, shortly before the insurgents invaded the community.
“The soldiers were not around when the terrorists invaded. They came in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing panic everywhere. They took away students writing NECO and their teachers,” an eyewitness said.
