Again Dangote Cuts Fuel Price as Refinery Slashes Petrol Rates Nationwide

Dangote Refinery has again reduced its premium motor spirit (PMS) retail price across Nigeria, a move poised to ease pump price pressure. The 650,000-barrel-per-day facility reported on Thursday that its new gantry price remains pegged at “N820 per litre, the same figure announced last month.”

The update, obtained by PulseNets from a fresh price template released on company’s verified X account, confirms that the refinery has adjusted its petrol pricing even as tensions continue between the company and the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

According to the template seen by PulseNets, pump prices in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo and Ekiti now stand at “N841 per litre, reduced from N860.” In Abuja, Edo, Delta, Rivers and Kwara, the retail price is now “N851 per litre, down from N885.”

By these adjustments, Dangote Refinery has learnt to trim petrol costs by N19 in Lagos and other South-West states, while slashing prices by N34 in Abuja and the South-South corridor. The company told PulseNets that “the revised template will take effect from Monday, September 15, 2025.”

However, industry players reminded that this new price regime is not mandatory for all petroleum marketers. As spoke to PulseNets, insiders stressed that “only MRS and Dangote’s official distribution partners are directly bound by the updated pricing.”

In a related development, NUPENG on Thursday reported its dissatisfaction, warning that it may resume industrial action against Dangote Group, accusing the conglomerate of “reneging on recently agreed resolutions.”

This pricing shift comes amid fierce competition and nationwide concern over fuel affordability, underscoring Dangote Refinery’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s downstream sector.
