Senate President Godswill Akpabio has reportedly taken the extraordinary step of withdrawing a staggering N800 million from the Senate account to fund his upcoming 61st birthday celebration.

The controversy doesn’t end there, according to Jackson Ude, senators have reportedly rallied behind Akpabio, contributing almost N150 million towards the birthday bash. The funds, gathered under the account number 0660633829 at Guaranty Trust in the name of Felicia Agbaire, have sparked a debate over the propriety of such substantial financial contributions from public officials.

Senator Barinada Mpigi initiated the motion for the Akpabio Birthday Jamboree, and it was seconded by Senator Osita Ngwu. The scale of the donations and the alleged withdrawal from the Senate Account have led to questions about the transparency and ethical considerations surrounding such financial transactions.

PulseNets learnt, the controversy extends to various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including NDDC, NPA, NIMASA, NNPC, among others. These organizations have been informed about Akpabio’s birthday celebration, and donations from them are reportedly anticipated, adding another layer of concern to the situation.

Mr Jackson alleged that on the day of the celebration, a Private Jet, reportedly chartered and paid for by Akpabio, will transport Senators to Uyo for the grand event. This move has only intensified the scrutiny surrounding the birthday festivities, with critics questioning the use of public funds for what appears to be a lavish and opulent celebration.
