Breaking: Appeal Court affirms Gov Ahmad Aliyu’s victory in Sokoto Gubernatorial Election

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the election Ahmad Aliyu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as governor of Sokoto State.

A three-member panel of justices of the court affirmed Aliyu as winner of the March 18 governorship election after dismissing the appeal of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Saidu Umar.

PulseNets reported that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos, Sokoto State had upheld the victory of Aliyu of the APC in an earlier judgment.

The tribunal ruled that the petitioners, the PDP and its candidate, failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.

The PDP and its candidate, Saidu Umar, had approached the tribunal challenging the victory of APC and its candidate, Ahmad Aliyu, in the March 18 governorship election in the state.

They extended their search for justice to the Appeal Court where they also lost on Monday.
