Arabambi Claims Labour Party Leadership and Gov Otti Have Agreed to Back Tinubu 2027 Bid
The South-West National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has claimed that the party’s leadership structure, including Governor Alex Otti, has reached an understanding in principle to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
He made the assertion during an interview on News Central on Thursday, where he addressed internal party positioning ahead of the next general election.
“Abure and Governor Alex Otti have all agreed in principle that we will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because this presidency belongs to the South-West, not to the South,” he said, adding that the move is aimed at allowing the South-West complete its eight-year turn at the presidency.
PulseNets reported that Arabambi anchored his argument on what he described as an internal consensus within the Labour Party leadership, insisting that the decision aligns with zoning considerations and political stability within the party’s fractured structure.
On the speculation surrounding Peter Obi’s possible return to the Labour Party, a move reportedly being driven by former Finance Minister Nenadi Usman, Arabambi dismissed the idea outright, insisting it would not materialise under the current arrangement.
“Obi can never come back to the Labour Party, because we have an agreement, even with Governor Alex Otti, because of the intractable crisis, because of what has happened in the Labour Party, we have all settled that we will support the second term and ambition of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu only,” he said.
PulseNets learnt that Arabambi also linked the internal party stance to efforts aimed at consolidating influence ahead of 2027, while rejecting any suggestion of a renewed platform for Obi within the party structure.
He further accused Nenadi Usman of advancing Peter Obi’s political interests, alleging that her actions are motivated by concerns that Obi may struggle to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress coalition.
“Nenadi is just an appendage of Peter Obi. She’s only deceiving herself. She wants Obi as our Labour Party presidential candidate, and that is not going to work,” he said.

“She should perish that thought, no matter whosoever that is sponsoring her,” he added.
PulseNets obtained by further context within party discussions suggests growing internal tension over realignment strategies ahead of 2027, though no formal resolution has been publicly released by the party leadership.
