Armed Invaders storm Residence of Gov. Fubara’s Loyalist, Factional House of Assembly Speaker

Gov Fubara’s Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie to know fate on warrant of arrest April 25

Armed men believed to be police officers and suspected political thugs reportedly stormed the residence of Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, on Sunday night.

Ehie, a staunch supporter of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, had declared himself Speaker amid the ongoing crisis plaguing the state legislature.

The incident took place around 11 pm.

Details of the attack remain unclear, with no confirmation of any casualties or damage to property.

However, sources indicate that Ehie’s security personnel successfully thwarted the suspected assassination attempt.

This incident comes on the heels of a retreat undertaken by 27 lawmakers, led by House Speaker Martin Amaewhule, in Abuja. Amaewhule has said the retreat is a capacity-building exercise.

Recall that Amaewhule had led about 24 lawmakers to suspend Ehie as House leader alongside two other members of the house, leading to Ehie’s self-declaration as Speaker.
