Wike Blasts Atiku as “Serial Loser,” Defends FCT Projects and Abuja Infrastructure Progress
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, branding him a habitual election contender without victories and suggesting he may still join the race again in 2031 despite earlier assurances.
The remarks were made on Thursday during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects across Abuja, where the minister responded to Atiku’s assertion that the current administration has failed to deliver meaningful gains to Nigerians.
He said, “Atiku is a serial failure. He is a serial contestant and loser, and I am sure that in 2031, he will still contest. Nigerians would be laughing at such a person making that kind of statement that nothing positive has been done.”
Wike further challenged the former vice president to assess the transformation of the FCT, comparing present conditions with the period when Atiku held office.
“Let him compare the FCT now and when he was vice president. Can he honestly say what we have now is the same as then?” Wike asked.
Addressing claims by the African Democratic Congress that FCT authorities attempted to obstruct its convention at the Rainbow Event Centre, the minister dismissed the allegations outright. PulseNets learnt that Wike denied any knowledge of the venue or involvement in the matter.
“I don’t even know where that place is. There was no interference from anybody. These people should just stop looking for sympathy,” he said.
Wike emphasised that governance would not be slowed by political distractions, insisting that development efforts must continue irrespective of electoral cycles.
“The election will come, but people must work. Contractors are not part of the election,” he added.
On infrastructure delivery, the minister provided updates on major projects within the FCT. PulseNets reported that work on the Airport–Kuje road is approaching completion, with a section of the bridge expected to be opened soon.
“From Airport Junction to Kuje, one part of the bridge is almost completed. Before the end of May, the entire job will be handed over,” he said.
He also revealed that the first phase of the Kuje–Gwagwalada road dualisation, spanning roughly seven kilometres, remains on schedule for completion within the same timeline. PulseNets learnt that the administration expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of execution.
“I am happy with the progress. We are satisfied with the quality of jobs being delivered,” he added.
Wike expressed confidence that ongoing infrastructure upgrades would reposition Kuje as a key residential and commercial hub, reducing congestion within central Abuja.
“Very soon, Kuje will no longer be a satellite town. People will move there and build houses, and the pressure on the city will reduce,” he said.

The minister also challenged the ADC to present proof of any formal request to utilise Eagle Square, maintaining that proper procedures were not followed. PulseNets obtained that due process remains a critical requirement for access to public facilities.
Reaffirming the administration’s priorities, Wike stated that project execution remains central, with a significant portion of planned works expected to be completed before January.
“Our focus is clear; deliver projects, improve lives, and keep Abuja moving,” he said.
