According to information received from a source within the command, it has been alleged that Umar Bala, a Personal Assistant to the Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Seme Special Command in Lagos, has committed a heinous crime by reportedly raping his best friend’s fiancée.
The source, who shared this disturbing incident with PulseNets, claimed that Bala, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, deliberately intoxicated his best friend’s fiancée, referred to as ‘Peter’s fiancée,’ and sexually assaulted her in his own residence.
The source further disclosed that Bala and Peter share a close friendship, being not only best friends but also colleagues and coursemates within the command. They often socialize together, going out for drinks and relaxation when they are off duty, sometimes accompanied by Peter’s fiancée.
The source emphasized that Peter’s fiancée does not consume alcohol due to its adverse effects on her senses, and Bala was well aware of her vulnerability to the substance.
The source said, “Peter took his annual leave and travelled to Abuja for his annual leave, leaving his fiancée behind. Then on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Peter’s fiancée came to the quarters (where both Peter and Bala live but not in the same house) to clean Peter’s room, as usual, to avoid the room being dusty.
“After cleaning the room, she was about to leave when she decided to go to Bala’s room to greet him as her fiancé’s best friend. When she entered Bala’s room, she met Bala drinking and smoking inside his room.
“After exchanging pleasantries, she wanted to go, then Bala offered her drinks but she told Bala that he knows she doesn’t have the brain to take alcohol but Bala told her not to worry. He said she should take it and even if she gets drunk, he would take her to Peter’s room to sleep.
“At that point, she felt relaxed and collected the drink from Bala and drank it. Immediately after she finished taking the drink, Bala put on music from MP4 and raised the volume to the highest level and both of them started dancing.
“At this point, she was no longer in her normal sense as the drink Bala gave to her had started to affect her. Bala realised that she was no longer in her right mind due to the alcohol he gave her, then he took advantage of her being drunk and had sex with her.”
According to the source’s account, Peter’s fiancée fell asleep in Bala’s room and woke up at precisely 12:20 am to find herself undressed. Upon inspecting her private parts, she realized that Bala had engaged in sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
The source further revealed that when she reached for her phone to contact Peter, Bala began pleading with her not to disclose what had occurred.
“Bala, fully aware of her vulnerability due to alcohol, took advantage of her, violated her, and, above all, betrayed his best friend, Peter. These are some of the reasons why you hear of unfortunate incidents within the military and paramilitary when such matters are not appropriately handled,” the source lamented.
The source expressed a prayer that the management of NDLEA thoroughly investigates this crime, and if the officer is found guilty, appropriate disciplinary action should be taken as a deterrent to other uniformed men who misuse their positions to commit such offenses. The matter has reportedly been reported to the command, but there are allegations of an attempted cover-up.

When SaharaReporters contacted Abdul Maiyaki, the spokesperson for the command, he neither confirmed nor denied the incident.
“I am currently away from the station but promise to get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you,” he stated.
