Asue Ighodalo, a frontline aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Edo State, has been declared winner of the poll.
Ighodalo was declared winner of the parallel election which took place on Thursday, February 22, 2024, after polling a total of 577 votes.
Chairman of the Edo Electoral Committee and Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State declared him the winner of the exercise.
PulseNets reports that Ighodalo is the preferred candidate of the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Earlier, the deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, emerged winner of a parallel governorship primary of the PDP.
“After doing the counting of this primary election, Philip Shaibu has a score of 301. Therefore, we hereby declare Mr Shaibu as the authentic elected candidate for this election in PDP,” a man dressed in a yellow T-shirt and black Fez cap declared amidst applause from the cheering crowd.

In a video on X, Shaibu was seen exchanging pleasantries with dozens of supporters after he was announced winner.
