Yenagoa—A youth leader in the Niger Delta, Daniel Obriango has urged students to take advantage of the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by going into agriculture as himself and council are working to bring agricultural programmes they can work with to develop opportunities for progress.
He said students should see the strike as an opportunity to develop themselves in a bid to become self-reliant taking into cognizance the the adverse impact the strike has had on plans and understanding the worry they must be feeling with so much uncertainty.
Obriango who is the Board of Trustees member representing Bayelsa State in the Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Leaders made it clear that the council is ready and willing to work directly with government and other authorities to develop programmes to help.
The youth leader admonished students not to be deterred by the time being wasted by the strike action but “strive to fill the gap by engaging in meaningful ventures such as agricultural activities which can create a means of income while providing necessary resources and meetings the needs of our people.
He also assured them that they are not alone in this as the Coalition of Niger delta youth leaders has seen the need to provide support and will work hand in hand as long as they are willing and committed to their endeavours, the council will work to support their actions.
While calling on the federal government and ASUU to swiftly come to a compromise and end the strike, as the welfare of the students is paramount and we must do everything protect their educational journey.
To the students, we understand that the uncertainty may tempt you to make poor decisions, but be steadfast and trust that we have your best interests at heart. Together, if we stay the path, we will come out better in the other side.
