Bayelsa Appoints New Police Commissioner as CP Daniel Iyamah Takes Charge

Bayelsa State has received a new Commissioner of Police following the assumption of duty by CP Daniel Iyamah, who officially replaced Francis Idu after the latter’s elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, PulseNets learnt.

The new police boss acknowledged that Bayelsa’s expansive riverine terrain, strategic oil and gas infrastructure, and youthful population demand security approaches that are adaptive, inclusive, and responsive to both traditional and emerging threats. He noted that policing in the state must continuously evolve to address its unique security dynamics.

CP Iyamah emphasised that the protection of lives, property, and critical national assets remains the core mandate of the Nigeria Police Force, adding that he had been comprehensively briefed on the prevailing security realities across the state, PulseNets reported.

Having previously served in Bayelsa as Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department as well as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Iyamah told PulseNets that his familiarity with the state’s security landscape would enable him to strengthen and decisively improve the existing security architecture.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the command has adopted a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of violence and organised crime, including kidnapping, armed robbery, sea piracy, and unlawful possession of firearms, PulseNets obtained.

He added that officers under his command have been clearly directed to confront pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, illegal refining activities, and other forms of economic sabotage with firmness and professionalism.

According to him, preventive policing strategies will also be deployed to manage inter-communal disputes, youth-related unrest, and election-linked tensions, with the aim of sustaining peace and public safety across Bayelsa State.

CP Iyamah called on residents to actively support law enforcement efforts by volunteering timely and credible information, cooperating with police personnel, and fostering peace within their communities, PulseNets learnt.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, now AIG Francis Idu, urged officers and men of the command to give full cooperation to the new CP. He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure the safety and security of Bayelsa State and its surrounding areas, PulseNets reported.
