Breaking: INEC Says election will not hold in 240 polling units across 28 states

INEC Warns of Violence Ahead of Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi Governorship Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Monday that there won’t be any general elections on February 25 and March 11 in around 240 polling units spread throughout 28 States of the federation.

The Commission also issued a warning, stating that it would not be acceptable if two or more party representatives showed up at the voting places at the same time and caused confusion, and that any representative discovered to be engaging in such behavior would be detained and charged.

The number of polling places where votes would not be held ranges from one in the states of Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Zamfara to 38 in the state with the most voters, Imo.

In the impacted polling units, there are no registered voters, according to INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who made this announcement during a regular meeting with the leaders of the 18 registered political parties ahead of the elections.

With the 240 polling places excluded, he claimed that there will be roughly 176,606 polling places nationwide where voting will take place.
