The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced a nationwide 7-day warning strike set to begin on Monday, August 26, 2024, at midnight.
The strike comes in response to the kidnapping of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar at the Department of Ophthalmology, National Eye Centre, Kaduna.
During an emergency National Executive Council meeting, NARD President Dr. Dele Abdullahi confirmed the strike, emphasizing, “This action will be comprehensive, with no allowances or emergency care provided during the strike.”
Dr. Popoola, along with her husband and nephew, was abducted on December 27, 2023. While her husband was released in March, Dr. Popoola and her nephew remain in captivity after eight months.
