The Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki on Tuesday disbanded the South-East security outfit Ebubeagu in Ebonyi State.
According to the court, the disbandment of the security outfit was as a result of human rights abuses, extortions, illegal arrests and use of fire arms.
The Publicity Secretary of PDP in Ebonyi State who also doubles as Director of Media and Publicity, Atiku Abubakar Campaign Council in Ebonyi State postedon facebook page;
“Federal High Court in Abakaliki today ordered Ebonyi State Government to pay to the Director of Media and Publicity in the Ebonyi PDP Governorship Campaign Organisation, Abia Onyeike the sum of N50 million as damage over his abduction and torture by the Ebubeagu Security Outfit in Abakaliki in November, 2022. The court ordered the disbandment of the Ebubeagu outfit, ordering the DSS and Police to take to possession all the guns and logistics the terrorist outfit uses as tools of oppression.
The judge declared the Ebubeagu outfit an illegal one and therefore, ceases to exist as the Ebonyi State House of Assembly doesn’t have the powers to approve their existence.
From today onwards, anyone who sees a person or persons bearing guns in the name of Ebubeagu, the person should report them to the police or treat them as criminals. We thank the judge and the court for delivering this landmark judgment which will rid Ebonyi State of criminal elements.
