Court Strikes Out Suit By Edison Ehie Against Defected Rivers Assembly Lawmakers

A State High Court in Rivers has struck off a suit filed by the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie.

Ehie recently, in a letter addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), resigned as member of the assembly and speaker.

HE had filed the charges against 25 Rivers Assembly lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This follows a political crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, over an alleged control of the political structure in the state.

Ehie had contested the decision of the defected lawmakers to continue sitting as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly after their seats had been declared vacant.

However, Ehie, through his lawyers on Thursday, issued a notice of discontinuance on the suit, with the judge thereafter striking out the suit.
