Cybercrimes: Immigration arrests 90 foreigners in Rivers

90 Suspected Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Rivers State for Cybercrimes

The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended 90 suspected illegal immigrants accused of engaging in cybercrimes aimed at defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians at various levels.

PulseNets learned that the suspects were arrested during a collaborative operation between the NIS and other sister security agencies at their hideout in Rivers State.

Speaking to PulseNets, the Rivers State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, YI Abdulmajeed, revealed that a total of 94 individuals were initially taken into custody. Upon profiling, it was discovered that 85 of the suspects are Cameroonians, five are Chadians, and four are Nigerians. Of the total number arrested, 74 are male, while 20 are female.

Abdulmajeed told PulseNets that the 90 foreign nationals had entered Nigeria through unauthourized routes. None of them could produce residence permits or any valid travel documents during interrogation.

He further disclosed that two Nigerians from Rivers State, who provided accommodation for the suspects and acted as their landlords, were also apprehended during the operation.

The state NIS boss reported that the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, has directed that appropriate measures be taken to repatriate the foreigners to their respective countries of origin.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Nigeria Immigration Service to tackle illegal migration and safeguard the country’s borders.
