Davido Announces Indefinite Break From Music, Says Old Songs Still Keep Him Relevant
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has announced an indefinite break from releasing new music, saying he currently has no pressure to drop fresh songs to remain relevant in the entertainment industry.
The award-winning singer, born David Adeleke, made the disclosure during a recent livestream session with content creator Davrel, PulseNets learnt.
During the session, the “OBO” hitmaker told fans to stop anticipating new music from him anytime soon, revealing that he is presently taking a sabbatical from music releases.
“Stop asking me when I am dropping new music. I am on a musical break. Like I said, if you go to the club right now, 10 out of 20 songs are mine. So I am on a musical break,” Davido said.
The 33-year-old music star explained that he does not feel any urgency to release new tracks because his previous records are still enjoying massive airplay across clubs, parties, and streaming platforms.
PulseNets reported that the singer also reacted to the growing popularity of celebrity boxing tournaments in Nigeria, describing the trend as a positive development for the entertainment industry.
“I am actually impressed by the celebrity boxing tournament. It is a welcome development,” he stated.
His comments come shortly after popular streamer Carter Efe defeated controversial singer Portable to emerge as the reigning champion of the Nigerian celebrity boxing tournament.
Following the defeat, Portable had accused several colleagues in the music industry of abandoning him and claimed that many entertainers secretly dislike him, PulseNets learnt.
Davido’s announcement has since triggered mixed reactions on social media, with many fans expressing disappointment over the possibility of an extended break from the singer, while others praised the Afrobeats star for prioritising rest after years of consistent performances, hit projects, and international tours.

Widely regarded as one of Africa’s biggest music exports, Davido has maintained dominance in the global music scene through chart-topping singles, sold-out concerts, and a loyal international fanbase.
As of the time of filing this report, the singer has not disclosed when he plans to return to the studio or resume releasing new music.
