DeeOne Confirms Veekee James Is His Ex, After ‘Unserious’ Remark
Aderombi Adedayo, the Nigerian reality television personality and comedian popularly known as DeeOne, has openly revealed that celebrity fashion designer Veekee James was once his romantic partner.
The disclosure followed recent comments credited to Veekee James during her appearance on Unfiltered and Extra Spicy with Ify’s Kitchen podcast, where she described the comedian as an “unserious” individual.
According to remarks obtained by PulseNets, the designer suggested that DeeOne should not be taken seriously, stating that anyone who does otherwise may be “jobless or something else.” She further implied that she had never heard the comedian express anything meaningful.
Reacting to the statement, DeeOne acknowledged that the comments were linked to their shared history, describing the situation as “a clear blast from the past.” The comedian confirmed that both of them were previously involved romantically shortly after his exit from Big Brother Naija in 2018.
In a video shared on his Instagram page with the caption “Ruth, you never still move on from this our matter,” DeeOne insisted that he had long moved on from the relationship.
Speaking candidly, he warned fans against internalising celebrity disputes, explaining that many details about the entertainment industry remain unknown to the public.
“A lot of people don’t know this,” he said. “When I came out of Big Brother Naija in 2018, Ruth and I were involved. She was a good person, very sweet, and that’s the honest truth. I don’t enjoy being controlled, but there was no bad blood and it’s not like I treated her badly.”
The comedian added that their past relationship was no secret within industry circles.
“Some people in the industry are aware of what I’m saying. Even her husband, Mr Femi James, knows. I just don’t like excessive control or constant instructions. Sometimes it felt like I was being treated more like an errand person than a boyfriend, and that became uncomfortable for me,” he explained.
Despite the public exchange, DeeOne maintained that he harbours no resentment toward the fashion entrepreneur and her family.
“Honestly, I wish them nothing but the best,” he stated. “I support what they’re building, I’m not a hater, and I’ve genuinely moved on. I don’t understand where the comment came from, but if there’s something I unknowingly did to offend her, then I apologise.”

He concluded by urging his supporters to remain neutral, stressing that personal dynamics within the entertainment space are often misunderstood.
“From my side, it’s all love,” DeeOne said. “My people, don’t take these things personally. There are many things that happen in this industry that the public doesn’t see. I’m only speaking now because she was the one who spoke negatively about me.”
